After graduation from Charles Brown High School, I enrolled at Grambling College, Grambling, Louisiana, now Grambling State University and graduated in 1971 with a B.A. in Sociology. Immediately after graduation, I relocated to Houston, TX and began employment with Southern National Bank. Among my many duties/responsibilities I oversaw the Return Items Desk (customers who didn’t have available funds to cover transactions, NSF fee charged); Proof and Transit Operations (encoded and endorsed deposits and checks); Automated Clearance House (bank’s electronic funds transfer system); Correspondent Floater (providing services to help grow the bank) and Bank Reconciliation (balanced the overall cash for the bank, net cash and cash equivalents moving in and out).
Married June 24, 1973 to my late wife of 30 years. To this union two daughters, Gretchen Phillips, graduate of Dillard University and Paula Phillips graduate of Grambling State University. Presently residing in Dallas, TX since 1982. Formerly, employed at Mercantile National Bank, now Chase; currently Co-Owner of a Janitorial Service for over 10-years. Previously, employed as a Salesman for Sears Automotive Center for over 20 years. Today, employed part-time at Walmart Corporation; the proud Grandfather of six highly energetic grandsons. Life is Good!
